Lime Rendering in Kent

Lime Rendering in Kent

Using the correct methods and traditional materials your panels will last and if looked after will only require minor attention to maintain their effectiveness and appearance. Our craftsmen are experienced in the careful restoration of historic buildings and can often incorporate specialist techniques and materials to comply wth modern building expectations.

Preserving Traditional Panels

Preserving Traditional Panels

Exposed timber-frame and rendered panels are synonymous with historic timber oak framed buildings. Although a great number of previously panelled frames have become covered by tile hanging or weatherboard, an equally great number survive as exposed framing and rendered panels.

Unfortunately, during the 20th century, a large proportion of rendered panels were replaced with hard sand and cement render causing untold damage to the structural frame by trapping moisture and accelerating timber decay. By contrast a poorly maintained or damaged traditional panel will not effectively 'wick away' any water resting on the frames horizontal surfaces which will also lead to timber decay if the panel is not repaired.

Our Lime Rendering Process

Our Lime Rendering Process

1. Initial Assessment
We begin with a detailed survey to evaluate the condition of the existing panels and recommend the most appropriate repair or restoration method.

2. Preparation & Guidance
Our team advises on the scope of works required and prepares the site to ensure all repairs can be carried out safely and effectively.

3. Careful Removal & Repair
Where necessary, failing or inappropriate renders are carefully removed and damaged panels repaired, protecting the underlying timber frame.

4. Application of Lime Render
Traditional lime render is applied using proven methods that allow the building to breathe and provide long-lasting protection.

5. Finishing & Support
Each project is completed with precision, and we provide guidance on ongoing maintenance to help preserve your building into the future.

Is lime rendering worth it?

Yes. Lime render protects timber frames, allows the building to breathe, and helps preserve the historic character of a property.

What is the difference between lime render and cement render?
Lime render is breathable and flexible, allowing moisture to escape and reducing the risk of damage, whereas hard cement renders can trap moisture and harm the structure.
Does lime render require maintenance?
Like any traditional material, lime render should be maintained and repaired when necessary. With the right care, it provides long-lasting protection.
Can lime render help protect historic timber frames?
Yes. Lime render is designed to work with traditional timber frames, helping to shed moisture and prevent decay while retaining the original character of the building.
