Great Pigstrood Barn

The original owner commissioned Chartered Architect Colin Humphrey to prepare a design and attempt to/and obtain Planning permission. This was done and the barn was sold to the new owner who appointed Anthony Hicks Ltd to bring the design with planning approval to reality on site

The oak frame barn was in a magnificent location but the frame was in a poor condition and too small for its intended use.  Our client already had a vision for the project and was looking for a company to bring this vision to fruition. 

Our company was very grateful for the opportunity to assist and having carried out many similar projects over the years, we were very confident that our client’s vision would soon be transformed into a beautiful home.

Whilst the building was not listed, our works were carried out to the same high conservation standards and careful consideration was given to the repair and reconstruction so that as many of the original oak timbers were saved and incorporated into the restored frame.  Seasoned oak close boarding was fitted to the vaulted roof to accentuate the exposed oak beams and rafters.  We were also able to supply and fit exceptionally wide and long oak floorboards which added to the traditional and high quality feel of the build.  A bespoke winding staircase was fitted which leads to the open walkway above and glazed walls to the upstairs bedrooms provided a contemporary twist. Featheredge oak weatherboard was fitted to all external elevations.

Our joinery workshop was kept busy providing all the bespoke oak joinery including windows, external and internal doors with traditional wooden latches, furniture and a hand made kitchen to the clients exacting design.

Upon completion of the house we built a garage building with room above and external oak staircase and an oak decking area which extended over the garden pond.

From the very beginning our client made his wishes very clear, he wanted a traditionally built home, hand built to an exceptional hand made finish.  We believe our company exceeded our client’s expectations which we hope was reflected by the volume of ongoing work carried out by our craftsmen.
