• Hilden Manor - Beefeater

    Restoration project

One of the oldest buildings in Tonbridge, Hilden Manor was burnt down in 2006 due to an electrical fault, which quickly spread throughout and very nearly destroyed the entire building.

Our company was approached by the Main Contractor and asked to assess the damage to the oak frame, undertake a detailed report and carry out timber repairs as a specialist contractor. Out of the six companies asked, our company was the only one experienced enough to tender for the works. This was quite an undertaking as the majority of the oak frame was completely destroyed by fire. However, our experience in this field enabled us to provide a solid direction for the frame repair and incorporation of new oak timbers.

We submitted our detailed frame drawings which showed the current condition of the oak frame, the proposed repairs and traditional jointing methods. Repairs were carried out, saving as much of the original timbers as possible and reintroducing features such as the traditional collar purlin oak roof and crown post.

We were happy to be part of this restoration project which saved an important building for the community. We hope the hard work put in by everyone involved will be appreciated and enjoyed by future generations for many years to come. We feel the part played by our company provided a firm foundation for the completed restoration of Hilden Manor. We hope the hard work put in by everyone involved in the restoration of Hilden Manor will be appreciated and enjoyed by future generations for many years to come.
